Expression of colors

These works have a diversity of subjects.  Many of these works are drawn from the theatre, and its  performers, and also are influenced by literature, writers and  poets like Shakespeare,  Neruda, Lorca ,Lord Dunsany and many others. Also in general ,themes like – Life, Death, Beauty,  Sorrow,  Suffering,  Joy,  Dreams , Jealousy ,  Hate  and   Love .In other words,  the human passions, can become sources for new works , As Santaysna said:  "Nothing is as poor and melancholy as an art interested in itself and not in its subject."

Esthetic factors like color, line, expression, craft  are the tools being used to bring the work to fruition.

The painter speaks with his paint and brush and line......and the result is he hopes, is  something meaningful and beautiful.  To give some idea  of the diversity of the works,  in one we see a male dancer dancing,   above Broadway, Hollywood and Las Vegas, He has reached "stardom" ,  He like a king rules the entertainment world.

I  always had a liking for the old movies with their song and dance routines, Al Jolson, etc.  The Broadway Musicals of the 30's as shown in the old movies.   Another work  ,"The  King Dances" was from Shakespeare's play, "All's Well That Ends Well".  The King recovers his health  and celebrates, by dancing gaily in front of his courtiers. His happiness is exhibited with great joy. leaving the sick bed behind  Another, I painted a chiidren's fairy tale "Little Miss Muffet sat on a tuffet, eating her curds and whey, Along came a Spider and sat down beside her and frightened  Miss Muffet away".

These tales for children always attracted me  for their imaginary components, for their brevity something like Haiku.  Also remarkable for the graphic imagery as the tales unfolds. Another painting showing Jealoisy in which we see a jealous woman. painted all in green staring  at 2 lovers entwined around each other with snake bodies.  Jealousy,  appears here in a disappointed, frustrated, lover  .  Instead of the jealous one being just "green eyes": i've made her total figure green,  She, in her envy is burning up, consumed.  Another work is influenced by Neruda's poem "Enigmas" ,  A  line which reads "I want to tell you ,  that life in its jewel boxes is endless as the sand, impossible to count.......".   I painted this in black and white with Death on the left side and Life streaming out of a, large sort of a box, on the right side.  Life and Death. the two major contrasts.

The life element in its repeated cycles with all sorts of forms bursting out ...... unrestrained, something like the uplifting joy in Beethoven's 9th Symphony,  There are works also  with no story lines and nevertheless can have  artistic significance for instance,.  I have a young actress holding an imitation horses head disguise,  She and the the head are all in yellow standing against a large black background  - all mystery and magic as Houdini once said.

Works that can contain elements of beauty drama, color, and at is best. originality..... after all a work should reflect an individual artists personal imagination alone. The originality should come from the artists own personality,  and  should be as clear as his own face .in its uniqueness  . I have tried to explain some of the factors involved in making a painting. I picked a work out, here and there,  to help  explain the mind processes....but, of course, also there is more than meets the eye......
